Advanced cardiovascular panel — cholesterol, lipids, ApoB, Lp(a), and hs-CRP. The markers your GP rarely checks.
What gets tested
Why this panel
Standard NHS cholesterol checks miss the markers that matter most. ApoB tells you how many artery-damaging particles are circulating — a better predictor of cardiovascular risk than LDL alone. Lp(a) is a genetic risk factor that affects 1 in 5 people and is almost never checked by GPs. hs-CRP measures the chronic inflammation that drives atherosclerosis. This panel covers them all.

Common questions
The Heart Health panel measures a full lipid profile (total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides), ApoB (the most accurate predictor of cardiovascular risk), Lp(a) (a genetic risk factor), hs-CRP (chronic inflammation), and HbA1c (metabolic health). These are the markers most GPs do not routinely check.
LDL cholesterol measures the amount of cholesterol carried by atherogenic particles, but ApoB counts the actual number of those particles. Two people with identical LDL levels can have very different particle counts — and it is the particle count that drives plaque formation. Leading cardiologists now consider ApoB the single best blood marker for cardiovascular risk.
Lipoprotein(a) is a genetic risk factor for heart disease that affects roughly 1 in 5 people. Unlike LDL, Lp(a) levels are almost entirely determined by genetics and do not change with diet or exercise. Most GPs never test it. Knowing your level helps you and your doctor make better decisions about overall cardiovascular risk management.
Fasting is not strictly required for the Heart Health panel, but a 9–12 hour overnight fast (water is fine) can give more accurate triglyceride and LDL results. If you eat beforehand, your total cholesterol, HDL, ApoB, Lp(a), and hs-CRP results will still be reliable.
Yes. In fact, testing while on statins helps you and your doctor see whether your current medication is bringing your markers into the optimal range. ApoB is particularly useful for monitoring statin effectiveness because it responds more predictably than LDL alone.
