PhenoAge, or phenotypic age, is a research measure from Levine et al. (2018) that combines nine routine blood markers with your chronological age. Across large studies it tracked long-term health outcomes better than age alone. It is an estimate for context, not a diagnosis.

Is a lower biological age better?

In the Levine study, a phenotypic age below chronological age was associated on average with better long-term outcomes across a population. That is a population-level pattern, not a promise for any individual, and the figure is not a prediction of how long you will live.

How this is worked out

Uses the phenotypic-age (PhenoAge) algorithm from Levine ME, Lu AT, Quach A, et al., “An epigenetic biomarker of aging for lifespan and healthspan,” Aging (Albany NY) 2018;10(4):573–591 (doi:10.18632/aging.101414). It combines albumin, creatinine, glucose, C-reactive protein, lymphocyte percent, mean cell volume, red cell distribution width, alkaline phosphatase, white cell count and chronological age. Enter UK units as labelled; CRP is taken in mg/L. This is a published statistical estimate for general information, not a diagnosis.
