WHAT WE MEASURE

17 markers worth knowing.

This is the panel to start with if you do not have a specific question. It looks at the things that quietly run people down without showing up on a standard NHS check — iron stores, vitamin D, B12, folate, thyroid function (TSH), and a full blood count. If something here is below the level needed for daily energy rather than the level needed to avoid disease, the report says so plainly, and the next step is a single change rather than a stack of supplements.

Ideal for

  • Anyone who hasn't tested their blood in three years and wants a baseline
  • People who feel generally well but want to catch issues early
  • First-time blood testers who want a solid baseline
  • Those looking for a comprehensive check without the hormone markers
The Helvy kit contents laid out on ivory paper: collection tubes, lancets, alcohol wipes, plasters, specimen bag, prepaid return envelope and the Helvy blood collection guide.
HOW THE KIT WORKS

Posted to your door. Returned the same day.

The kit arrives in a small box with a finger-prick lancet, two vials, and a prepaid return envelope. The whole sample takes about ten minutes at home, no clinic visit and no needle.

Drop the sealed return envelope in any post box the same day. Your sample lands at the UKAS-accredited UK lab the next working day. Results in your inbox within five days of the lab receiving the sample.

HOW WE READ IT

Every marker is read against optimal ranges from the published research, not just the NHS disease thresholds.

QUESTIONS

Frequently asked

What does the General Energy & Wellness blood test include?

The General Energy & Wellness panel checks 17 biomarkers covering thyroid function (TSH), iron stores (ferritin), vitamin D, vitamin B12, folate, HbA1c (blood sugar control), a full cholesterol panel, liver function (ALT), kidney function (creatinine, eGFR), and a full blood count. It is the most comprehensive baseline health check Helvy offers.

Is General Energy & Wellness enough or should I add another panel?

It is the right starting point for almost everyone. If you also want a deeper hormone picture, the Complete Male Hormones or Hormone Balance panel covers reproductive hormones. If your concern is cardiovascular risk, the Advanced Heart Health adds ApoB, Lp(a), and a complete lipid sub-fraction view. For metabolic concerns, the Metabolic Health panel adds fasting insulin and HOMA-IR.

How is this different from a standard NHS blood test?

A typical NHS health check tests around 5 to 10 markers (usually cholesterol, blood sugar, and sometimes kidney or liver function). The General Energy & Wellness panel tests 17, includes markers GPs rarely check (vitamin D, B12, ferritin, thyroid), and reports results against optimal ranges rather than the wide NHS reference ranges designed to catch disease.

Do I need to fast before taking the General Energy & Wellness blood test?

A 9 to 12 hour overnight fast is recommended for the most accurate cholesterol and HbA1c results. Water, black tea, and black coffee (no milk or sugar) are fine during the fasting period. If you cannot fast, your results will still be clinically useful — just note it when registering your sample.

How often should I repeat this panel?

For most people, testing every 3 to 6 months provides a useful picture of how your health is changing. A baseline test followed by a retest at 3 months is ideal if you are making lifestyle or supplement changes — it shows whether those changes are working. After that, every 6 to 12 months is sufficient for ongoing monitoring.
